With hundreds of millions of unique visitors from around the world each month, CBS Interactive is a global top-ten web property. It is also the parent company to several highly trafficked brands including CNET, Gamespot, TV.com, lastfm.com, and more.

CBSi’s internship program, which began in 2008, spans over 5 offices across the country, and hires over 50 interns each year.

CBSi’s Problem: Increasing Campus Hires and Creating a Strong Online Presence for their Next Gen Hiring Brand

When you have offices in cities throughout the US and recruit students in departments that range from Accounting to Engineering, creating a clear and exciting internship message online can be far from straightforward.

“Most students know CBS and some of them have heard of CBSi, but most don’t know that CBSi includes brands like Gamespot, CNET, TV.com and hardly any know that we have a really chill company culture. Our site traditionally has been large and confusing which meant less of the candidates we want..” Shawna Buchannan, CBSi’s University Relations Manager

Plus, making changes at a company like CBS is difficult:

“It’s a challenge to add content to our career site. If I want to make a change on the internships section, I need to create a ticket and get a level of pass through before anything goes live. I can’t just go in and add a picture or video.”

Despite their world-class brand and team, CBSi was struggling to create a next gen hiring presence online that complemented their campus efforts. They needed a solution that was easy to update and even easier for students and recent grads to navigate.

1 Branding

CBSi worked with our marketing team to create a branded Company Page complete with videos, pictures, and social media feeds.

2 Integration

Their Company Page gave them the ability to connect better with students at the schools they were already recruiting at:

“We recruit at 10+ campuses every year. To be able to tell every student to go to our company page on Looksharp is so much easier than saying go to our website. Looksharp is way more user friendly.”

CBSi found further benefits from integrating their offline efforts with their Company Page. At career fairs they handed out branded business cards with their Company Page URL on the back. During the year, they participated in a Google Hangout about internships and added the resulting video to their Company Page. This streamlined experience helped sell many of CBSi’s top candidates on why they should apply and accept a role at this company.

3 Reach

Until partnering with Looksharp, CBSi had always hired students from the same 8-10 core schools. They were finding that as computer science competition continued to rise, getting traction at core schools was costing more time and money than ever before.

In the last year, CBSi hired over 20 students (close to 50% of their program) through Looksharp, and many of their best performers came from non-core schools. Through Looksharp, CBSi was able to recruit at places where they their competition wasn’t.

4 Results

Over 600,000 page views, 10,000 qualified applicants, and numerous hires later, the team at CBS Interactive is raving about Looksharp. By using a Company Page, CBSi was able to hire a number of students outside of their core schools, helping them find top talent before the competition.
